Julian Aguiar Called Up To Make Big-League Debut
3 months agoThe Cincinnati Reds recalled right-handed pitching prospect Julian Aguiar from Triple-A Louisville on Monday to make his major-league debut and start against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. Aguiar, a former 12th-round pick and the team's No. 11 prospect per MLB Pipeline, gets the nod for his MLB debut after going a combined 5-4 with a 3.79 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP and a 95:29 K:BB in 116 1/3 innings over 22 starts with Double-A Chattanooga and Louisville this year. The 23-year-old has a big slider that he leans on heavily. Since making his professional debut in 2021, he has increased his velocity significantly and has developed a feel for pitching. As of now, Aguiar will take the rotation spot of the injured Hunter Greene (elbow). He gets a Toronto team that ranks 20th in MLB this year with a .695 OPS.
