Coby Mayo Sitting Again On Friday
4 months agoBaltimore Orioles infield prospect Coby Mayo is out of the team's starting lineup yet again for Friday's series opener on the road in Tampa against the division-rival Rays. Mayo, the team's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was expected to see more playing time than this when Jordan Westburg went down with a fractured hand. The 22-year-old has gone hitless in 13 at-bats with eight strikeouts in his first five games, though, and has been on the bench in three of the last four contests as a result. Veteran Ramon Urias will make another start at the hot corner and hit eighth on Friday against Rays right-hander Zack Littell. Mayo will surely get more chances with both Westburg and Jorge Mateo (elbow) on the IL, but he's going to have to show some life against big-league pitching if he wants to gain a playing-time advantage over the light-hitting Urias.
