Anthony Volpe Smacks Home Run Friday Night
5 months agoNew York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe went 2-for-5 Friday night with a solo home run and a single with an additional run scored in a 9-7 see-saw loss to the Boston Red Sox. 2024 looked like a promising sophomore season for the 23-year-old, but Volpe got ice-cold once the weather started to get hot. His batting average has plummeted from .282 to .252, and he's only been able to muster up two home runs since then, both being of the solo variety in the last four games. His quick success this season had him in the lead-off spot, spraying the ball to all fields, showing off some patience, and taking walks. All those qualities are in the rearview mirror at the end of July. Despite his up-and-down season, Volpe has fantasy upside and is slashing .252/.305/.384 with eight home runs, 37 RBI, 66 runs, and 18 stolen bases over 468 plate appearances.
