Nick Kurtz Taken Fourth Overall By The A's
5 months agoThe Oakland Athletics selected first baseman Nick Kurtz from Wake Forest with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. Kurtz was originally recruited as a pitcher but eventually emerged as an elite threat in the batter's box. Many scouts projected the 21-year-old to be the first player off the board in this class as he posted a dominant .344/.498/.695 slash line with 39 round-trippers in his two seasons at the college level. However, his 2024 campaign was hindered by a nagging shoulder injury, which lowered his draft stock. However, he overcame the injury quite quickly as he launched 14 home runs in his first nine games back. Scouts credit the young first baseman as a complete hitter. Kurtz should quickly climb the Oakland system and emerge as their top young bat behind Jacob Wilson, who was selected sixth overall last summer.
