Chase Burns Goes Second To Cincinnati
5 months agoThe Cincinnati Reds selected right-handed pitcher Chase Burns from Wake Forest with the second overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. The 21-year-old is credited with having a fastball that peaks at 102 mph and usually sits just under 100 mph. His slider sits in the upper 80s and generates an elite level of whiffs. Burns held a strong 10-7 record with a 2.70 ERA and struck out an eye-catching 191 batters in just 100 frames this season. This was a significant improvement over the 4.25 ERA he held in 2023. In addition, he also tallied just 114 punchouts in 2023 which is much lower than his massive 2024 total. Burns is now the second pitching prospect the Reds have selected earlier in the past two seasons, as they took Rhett Lowder with the seventh overall pick last summer.
