Max Scherzer Not Planning On Waiving His No-Trade Clause
5 months agoWhen asked if he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause again at this year's trade deadline, Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer said, "Yeah, I'm not gonna do that...we're gonna play better baseball. It's gonna be a moot point t even talk abut...we're gonna win here." Scherzer has waived his no-trade clause to facilitate a trade in three of the last five years, but it sounds like that isn't in the cards in 2024. The Rangers have won five straight heading into Wednesday's action and are 5.5 games behind the American League West-leading Seattle Mariners, while they sit seven games out of the final wild-card spot in the AL. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer had back surgery in the offseason and suffered a setback with his thumb along the way, so he's only managed to make four starts to this point for Texas. He's looked good in those four starts, giving up eight runs (four earned) while walking only three and striking out 17 in 23 1/3 innings.
