Rafael Devers Reaches 1,000 Career Hits, Smashes Homer In Loss
4 months agoBoston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers reached 1,000 career hits on Saturday going 2-4 with a HR in Boston's 14-4 loss to the New York Yankees. The 1,000th hit came on an RBI single in the top of the third inning off of Yankees' starter Gerrit Cole. Devers' HR was a solo shot in the top of the fifth inning that initially gave the Red Sox a 4-3 lead. Devers has been a solid source of production for Boston throughout his eight year career and continues to do so in 2024 with a .943 OPS and 19 HR. Should the lefty continue down this path then he will be cemented in Boston as a fan favorite with an outside chance to make noise in Cooperstown if he plays long enough. The 27-year-old will look to continue his stellar 2024 season against suddenly struggling Yankees starter Luis Gil.
