One and Done Selections - The Travelers Championship
In this feature, our golf staff of Joe Nicely, Spencer Aguiar, Joe Idone, Matt Miller, Byron Lindeque, and our special guest will provide their weekly golf picks every Wednesday. The purpose of this article is to present you with alternative options to consider and hopefully make your selection a much easier process weekly. With that plan in mind, let's get started!
Joe Nicely - Taylor Pendrith
First of all, this event definitely falls on the more "unpredictable" side of the scale due to its combination of uber-low scoring and relatively weak field. Those reasons lead me to look away from ultra-chalky options like Tom Kim, Akshay Bhatia, and Cameron Young. A popular option will most likely miss the cut this week. So while actually depending on Taylor Pendrith is a bit stomach-churning, it's the sort of leverage I'm looking for on this slate.
Pendrith checks all the boxes at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He's super long off the tee, he possesses great course history (T14 & T2), and he's been in sharp form. The Canadian is mounting a charge for a spot on the President's Cup team later this year and is in the midst of a hot streak that we can hopefully take advantage of in Motown.

Spencer Aguiar - Tom Kim
Alternate - Maverick McNealy
In the words of Eminem: Guess who's back, back again? Tom Kim's back (ninth straight week), tell a friend.
I am not worried about the countless rounds he has played over the past two months and will grab the player I deem to be the best talent in this field.
I have no issues with anyone that wants to consider a different option, but I will play things safe this week and see if I can steal a win away from the pack.
Don't look now, but I am slowly starting to sneak my way back into this contest after a slow start to the season.

Byron Lindeque - Erik Van Rooyen
Ludvig finally turned in a Dudvig, especially on Sunday, right after he made it look like he was close to really surging up that leaderboard! He’s been a stud, but we had him on the wrong week, but I will still be overly bullish on him when he gets to these tighter courses. I think he wins a lot of tournaments on short positional courses where he tends to be most comfortable with the driver.
This week, I am going to be leaning heavily into a golfer who is inside the top 20 for both ball striking and putting in this field. He is a past winner on tour during the fall swing and one of his biggest weaknesses is nullified by the relatively high GIR% at Detroit Golf Club. Erik Van Rooyen grades out as the golfer with the 8th-best upside in this field. For some reason I am even more drawn to him if the course plays soft and wet, which were the exact same conditions he went Nuclear in on that Sunday at the Cognizant Classic. The easier the scoring conditions, the more I want to lean into his ability to get scorching hot.
