Cooper DeJean 2024 Outlook: Fantasy's Top Rookie DB
6 months agoWhile Cooper DeJean was the fourth defensive back taken in this year's NFL Draft, he was easily the best equipped to contribute in fantasy. DeJean is a versatile player with experience playing both safety and cornerback. Reports out of minicamp suggest Philly recognizes and values this versatility, with coaches suggesting he could play in the slot or a roving STAR position. While it's unclear whether DeJean will see consistent snaps on defense immediately, the Eagles' lack of depth and youth at both safety and cornerback suggest he should earn a significant role by mid-season. Once he earns that role, the rookie should have DB2 upside in fantasy thanks to his elite return ability and solid tackling skills. Also worth remembering, the former Hawkeye totaled three defensive touchdowns in college and was an impressive return man. If you play in a Big Play Premium format or your league rewards return TDs or yardage, DeJean could have sneaky value even in redrafts. Beyond that, DeJean's long-term upside on a defense with a history of producing quality fantasy DBs is elite. Thus, he's a must-stash in dynasty.
