Will Anderson Jr. 2024 Outlook: Sophomore Breakout Incoming
6 months agoWith a player like Will Anderson Jr., you must trust the tape. Coming out of Alabama, Anderson was one of the most well-rounded edges to enter the NFL Draft in years. He flashed the ability to manhandle offensive tackles with power and get around them with leverage or speed. Anderson returned on much of that potential in his first year, winning Defensive Rookie of the Year while posting seven sacks despite missing two games. Unfortunately, Anderson didn't produce much other than sacks in his first year. He managed just 45 total tackles while forcing zero turnovers and deflecting one pass. His advanced metrics were also good but not overwhelming like Nick Bosa's or Myles Garrett's were as rookies. He ranked as PFF's 29th best-graded pass-rushing edge while finishing 17th in quarterback pressures. That said, Anderson's physical ability suggests he can do much more. The former Crimson Tide also works under an elite defensive mind in DeMeco Ryans, who has a history of maximizing pass rushers' talent. The additions of Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry should only make things easier for Anderson, who should have a big sophomore campaign.
