5 months agoTexas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will make his 2024 debut this Saturday against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Scherzer had back surgery in the offseason, which caused him to open this year on the injured list, and then thumb and forearm injuries caused his minor-league rehab assignment to be interrupted. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer threw 11 innings in the minors and had a 4.91 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 17 strikeouts and only three walks. The three-time Cy Young winner only made eight regular-season starts for the Rangers after coming over from the New York Mets in the middle of the season in 2023, but he had a solid 3.20 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 53 K's in 45 innings. Scherzer is no longer elite and is now injury-prone, but he can still be valuable in all fantasy leagues if he can stay on the mound the rest of the year.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
