Max Scherzer To Make His Next Start With Rangers
5 months agoTexas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) will come off the 60-day injured list and make his next start with the Rangers in the majors. Manager Bruce Bochy didn't give an exact date for Scherzer's 2024 debut, but this weekend against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Scherzer allowed three earned runs on four hits while walking two and striking out eight over 4 2/3 innings (79 pitches) in his final minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday. Offseason back surgery kept the 39-year-old future Hall of Famer out for the start of the regular season, and a thumb injury pushed his rehab back even further. Scherzer could have a slight workload restriction in his first start back against an upstart Royals squad. He's no longer a fantasy ace, but when healthy, Scherzer still has the stuff to be a reliable midrange starter in fantasy in the right matchups.
