The New York Yankees recently activated Jasson Dominguez from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 21-year-old, nicknamed The Martian, is believed to be the future of the outfield in the Bronx. But what that means for this year is a bit more murky.
On Sunday, Dominguez (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day IL at Triple-A further clouding his timeline for promotion.
Baseball fans may have heard that the current Yankees' outfield is pretty good. With Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, and Alex Verdugo patrolling the outfield grass at Yankee Stadium there doesn't appear to be an immediate opening for everyday at-bats for Dominguez and his latest IL stint doesn't help things.

Signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2019 for $5.1 million, Dominguez has the other-worldly hype to go along with his nickname. Last year, as a 20-year-old, he reached the big leagues. He homered off Justin Verlander in his first game and totaled four homers in his first eight games. An elbow injury derailed his debut and cost him much of this year.
How High Is Jasson Dominguez's Fantasy Potential?
The man, the myth, the Martian has the power potential and speed to make an immediate impact for fantasy managers when he does get the call to return to the majors. He has 60-grade power and 55-grade speed which is a delightful profile for fantasy purposes and should leave fantasy managers racing to the waiver wire upon news of a Bronx return. The savvy manager will want to act now to secure the services of Dominguez.
Dominguez stole 40 bases between Double-A and Triple-A in 2023 and 37 bases between three levels of the minors in 2023. That coupled with the pop he showed in his cameo at the big-league level in 2023 is rare for a prospect.

When Might Jasson Dominguez Get A Major-League Opportunity?
A return to the big leagues this year for Dominguez would be a major development for fantasy managers. When that will come is the major question. Dominguez, who was working his way back from a Tommy John procedure, will now likely need reps at Triple-A following his stay on the injured list.
A call-up by season's end seems likely, assuming the latest undisclosed injury isn't serious, but the timing could play a major role in how much he rewards fantasy managers who do take the risk of stashing him. A few months of production from Dominguez would be a big boost to teams in fantasy leagues of all sizes. Whether the Yankees provide that opportunity remains to be seen.
