Edwin Diaz Will Return To Closer Role
6 months agoNew York Mets right-handed relief pitcher Edwin Diaz (shoulder), who is set to return from the injured list on Thursday, will be the team's closer when he's back, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. Diaz was given a break from the closer's role in New York right before he was placed on the 15-day injured list in late May with a right-shoulder impingement. The hard-throwing reliever should have never been dumped by fantasy managers to begin with despite his struggles this year -- he has a 5.40 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, five saves, 30 strikeouts and seven walks in 20 innings pitched -- and hopefully he'll find a way to turn things around now that his right shoulder is feeling better. There's a chance that the Mets ease Diaz back into save opportunities upon his return, but fantasy managers will want to get him back into their lineups immediately on Thursday.
