John Metchie III 2024 Outlook: Competing For WR4 Role In High-Powered Offense
6 months agoHouston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III missed his entire 2022 rookie campaign after being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, so 2023 was his first year of action. Last season, he caught just 16 passes for 158 yards and was stuck behind Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Noah Brown, and Robert Woods on the depth chart. Heading into 2024, he's clearly behind Collins, Dell, and Stefon Diggs, but he could secure the WR4 role ahead of Brown, Woods, Ben Skowronek, and Xavier Hutchinson. Whoever wins the No. 4 role won't have immediate fantasy value, but they will be worth stashing in deep formats, and if one of the starting wideouts misses any time, they'll be a top waiver wire option in many leagues. C.J. Stroud demonstrated his ability to elevate his supporting cast in Year 1, so anyone with a chance to catch passes from him will at least be narrowly on the fantasy radar. Metchie, a former second-round pick, is unlikely to live up to his draft capital anytime soon, but there's a chance he will provide fantasy managers with a few double-digit fantasy weeks if he things break right.
