Colt Keith May Not Return Until Wednesday
6 months agoDetroit Tigers rookie second baseman Colt Keith (knee) will likely be out of the lineup for the series opener against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday with the Nats throwing left-hander Mitchell Parker. The Tigers have an off day on Monday, so that would allow Keith to get four days of rest after suffering a decent-sized bruise on his left knee when he collided with outfielder Akil Baddoo on Saturday. Examination from team doctors showed no structural damage, and Keith was able to get on the field for some light work on Sunday morning, although he didn't play. "I don't think anything's long-term hurt, so that's good," Keith said. If the 22-year-old is out again on Tuesday versus a left-hander, expect Andy Ibanez to get another start at the keystone. Keith has been inconsistent so far in his first 57 big-league games, going 40-for-186 (.215) with two homers, 19 RBI, three steals, 13 walks and 36 strikeouts in 201 plate appearances for the Tigers.
