Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Held Out Against Padres
6 months agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and shortstop Kevin Newman are out of the lineup for the second game of the series against the division-rival San Diego Padres on Friday at Petco Park. Randal Grichuk will get a start in right field and will bat sixth, while rookie Blaze Alexander gets the start at shortstop and will hit in the nine-hole against Padres right-hander Michael King. Jake McCarthy is in left field and is batting fifth for the Snakes. Thursday's 0-for-3 performance for Gurriel snapped an eight-game hitting streak. Since May 28, Gurriel has been seeing the ball better, going 9-for-35 (.257) with two homers, a double, seven RBI and three runs scored in nine games. Newman has been more than the D-backs could have asked for as a replacement for the injured Geraldo Perdomo (knee), but Perdomo's return is on the horizon, which will send Newman back to a bench role.
