Jorge Mateo Plays Catch Thursday
6 months agoBaltimore Orioles infielder Jorge Mateo (concussion) was seen playing catch at Rogers Centre in Toronto before the team's series finale against the Blue Jays on Thursday. Mateo was hit in the back of the helmet accidentally by teammate Cedric Mullins in the on-deck circle and was put on the seven-day concussion injured list on Monday. It's a good sign that the 28-year-old is already playing catch, but it remains to be seen if he'll be reinstated when he's eligible to rejoin the team on June 10. With Mateo on the shelf for a little while, the Orioles called up infield prospect Connor Norby this week, and he's already gone deep for the first home run of his career. When Mateo is able to return, he'll continue to serve as infield depth for the O's. Through 114 at-bats in 2024, he's hit .246 (28-for-114) with three homers, 13 RBI and 10 stolen bases. His speed is useful in deeper fantasy leagues.
