Christopher Morel Injures His Foot Against White Sox
6 months agoChicago Cubs third baseman Christopher Morel (foot) was removed from Wednesday's game against the visiting Chicago White Sox in the seventh inning after fouling a pitch off his left foot. Morel stayed in the game long enough to draw a walk to put two runners on with two outs in a tie game that the Cubbies eventually won in walk-off fashion. Before leaving the game early, Morel went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a walk and a strikeout. Patrick Wisdom pinch-ran for Morel after he reached base and could be thrust into a regular role at the hot corner in Chicago if Morel's foot injury causes him to go on the injured list. The streaky Morel had gone 5-for-16 with two home runs and three RBI in his last five games heading into Wednesday's game to get him just over the Mendoza Line at .201 (42-for-209) on the year. The 24-year-old power hitter has added 11 homers, 37 RBI and five steals. UPDATE: Manager Craig Counsell said he thinks Morel will be fine, and he doesn't need X-rays or any imaging.
