Padres Pursuing Trade For Garrett Crochet
6 months agoThe San Diego Padres have recently shown strong interest in Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet, according to sources briefed on the White Sox's discussions, less than three months after acquiring right-hander Dylan Cease from Chicago. The Padres have more of a need for starting pitcher after putting both Joe Musgrove (elbow) and Yu Darvish (groin) on the injured list for the second time this year over the weekend, although San Diego's farm system may be thinned out so much that it doesn't hold the same appeal for the White Sox. Crochet is the team's best starter and is making $800,000 and will remain arbitration-eligible for the next two years. For Chicago to trade Crochet, they'd likely require at least one position player prospect with significant upside, and the Padres are reluctant to discuss catcher Ethan Salas and shortstop Leodalis De Vries.
