2024 MLB Power Rankings: Week 11

MLB POWER RANKINGS - WEEK 11

Week 11 doesn't bring too many changes in the rankings, but several teams are beginning to separate themselves from the field in both directions.

Remember, I will be factoring in past performance, the current level of performance, overall talent, injuries, and schedules -- as many factors as I possibly can.

Keep reading to find out where your favorite team ranks and which teams moved up and down the rankings the most this week. Let's get into it already, here are my Week 11 MLB Power Rankings!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and weekly lineup resources:

The Bottom Dwellers

30. Chicago White Sox (15-48)

Last Week's Ranking (30)

A winless week for the Chi-Sox keeps them firmly at the bottom and they have now dropped 14 straight games. We may have to make them their own tier at some point, it's getting pretty bad.

29. Miami Marlins (21-41)

Last Week's Ranking (29)

The Marlins have dropped four in a row and it's still a coin flip between them and Colorado in terms of who the penultimate MLB team is on a weekly basis. Rumor has it that their talented pitching prospect, Max Meyer, could be back in the rotation soon, which would give us at least one reason to care about the Fish.

28. Colorado Rockies (22-40)

Last Week's Ranking (28)

The Rockies could get Nolan Jones back soon, which would go a long way to help this offense improve. The pitching in Colorado has been surprisingly decent lately with Cal Quantrill leading the way for a rotation that went from horrible in April to serviceable by June.

27. Oakland Athletics (25-39)

Last Week's Ranking (27)

It was a tough week for Oakland pitchers, who held the Mariners to just eight runs in their three-game series only to drop two of three games as the offense managed just five runs total. Some might have Oakland ahead of the Angels, but the Halos are 16 runs better in run differential.

26. Los Angeles Angels (24-38)

Last Week's Ranking (26)

Tyler Anderson is having one of his good years as he tends to go every other season with those. I imagine he will be a potential trade candidate here in another month. The Angels could end up shopping fellow lefty Patrick Sandoval, too, if they want to go with a full rebuild.

25. Washington Nationals (27-35)

Last Week's Ranking (23)

24. New York Mets (27-35)

Last Week's Ranking (25)

The Mets and Nats are tied with the same record and honestly are pretty interchangeable here, but I will give the Mets the benefit of the doubt here as they have a three-game winning streak going and a bit of life breathed into their lungs lately with some solid pitching from Tylor Megill and hitting from young third baseman Mark Vientos.

At Least We're Not Those Guys

24. Toronto Blue Jays (30-32)

Last Week's Ranking (24)

I really feel for the Toronto fans. This team was supposed to be so much better than this. Sure, it is only two games under .500, but the Jays have a horrendous -43 run differential as their star hitters Bo Bichette and George Springer are still mired in massive early-season slumps. I know the Toronto faithful are starting to lose faith in this team and franchise, and I don't blame them. There's no excuse for the season that Toronto is having given the talent on its roster.

22. Pittsburgh Pirates (29-33)

Last Week's Ranking (22)

The pitching trio of Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller, and Jared Jones could probably carry any roster to this record, but the Bucs have actually been hitting a bit lately, too, and just took two of three games from the Dodgers. I'm sure they will follow that up with some bad losses to bad teams soon enough (says the Pittsburgh fan that knows better than to get his hopes up).

This was a pretty cool matchup to watch, though, with both guys getting the better of each other.

21. St. Louis Cardinals (29-32)

Last Week's Ranking (20)

The Cardinals very predictably followed up their winning streak by going cold and dropping back down in the standings. This team really can't hit and on nights when their pitching doesn't dominate (like last night with Sonny Gray), they can be beaten by anyone.

It's hard to do it, St. Louis fans, but you really should be rooting for a terrible record this season and a fire sale so this rebuild can get started and you don't have to suffer in baseball purgatory for years to come.

20. Arizona Diamondbacks (30-33)

Last Week's Ranking (19)

The Snakes are hanging around .500 with a +0 run differential, so right in this quagmire of teams that can't seem to get over the hump. Corbin Carroll had two hits and stole a base yesterday, which was a good development considering he was hitting under the Mendoza Line going into that game. And it sounds like Zac Gallen's injury isn't too serious.

But Jordan Montgomery has been horrible and a giant waste of free-agent dollars. Maybe Eduardo Rodriguez can return at some point and give them some better innings than Monty is. This team was in the World Series last year, people -- what the heck?

19. Houston Astros (28-35)

Last Week's Ranking (18)

Houston's record is much worse than the other teams in this area of the rankings, but we all know that this offense is incredibly dangerous and capable of carrying this team for stretches. The bad news is it lost another starter to injury as Cristian Javier is out for the season.

18. San Francisco Giants (30-33)

Last Week's Ranking (17)

The Giants lasted one week in the "Are They Good?" tier before quickly going on a losing streak and reminding us that they are not. I like what they're getting from their young hitters and they did get Michael Conforto back this week, but the lineup is still largely average and the rotation lacks any arms that really scare you (though Logan Webb might ground-ball you to death!).

17. Cincinnati Reds (30-33)

Last Week's Ranking (21)

The Reds are big movers this week as they finally went on a run, ripping off five wins in a row. The big difference has been an awakening by the bats, led by Elly De La Cruz, who busted out of a slump of his own this week.

Another solid week and the Reds will be firmly back into the mix for the mid-tier. With the Cubs struggling, they could make a move for second place in the NL Central.

So...Are They Good?

16. Tampa Bay Rays (31-31)

Last Week's Ranking (16)

There's not much new to report here on the Rays. They have a 9-16 record against teams who are .500 or better and their -47 net rating is proof that they are more likely impostors than contenders.

15. Texas Rangers (30-32)

Last Week's Ranking (14)

It's been a disappointing start in Arlington for a team that won the World Series last season. Nathan Eovaldi is back in the rotation and pitching well, but now Corey Seager hurt his hamstring. I keep waiting for Texas to make a move up the standings, but it just hasn't happened. We can't count it out, but the longer it sits around .500, the less confidence I have that it'll get it turned around.

14. Detroit Tigers (31-31)

Last Week's Ranking (15)

Detroit keeps hanging around despite having a poor offense, mainly on the strength of its starting pitching. Kenta Maeda might be at the end of his career after leaving his last start after only a few pitches. That's a shame.

13. San Diego Padres (32-34)

Last Week's Ranking (12)

The news coming in on Joe Musgrove certainly doesn't sound very good and the Pads have to hope that he can avoid surgery and rejoin their rotation at some point. Right now, they have resorted to using guys like Randy Vasquez and recently called up their most ready prospect, Adam Mazur. They have a solid offense, but they won't be able to keep up in the NL West with this piecemeal rotation for long.

12. Boston Red Sox (32-31)

Last Week's Ranking (13)

Just when you want to celebrate the death of the Red Sox, they show some signs of life! Now, let's not get too overly excited about 14 runs against the White Sox and a starting pitcher who doesn't belong in the big leagues, but it's a reminder that this team CAN hit.

Tanner Houck continues to be superb and as long as the Red Sox have their young rotation intact, this team is going to be a problem for opponents on a nightly basis.

11. Chicago Cubs (31-32)

Last Week's Ranking (11)

Another skid this week has dropped the Cubbies below .500 and I am beginning to question their viability this season. Getting a healthy and productive Seiya Suzuki back in the lineup has been great, but some major regression from starters Justin Steele, Javier Assad, Ben Brown, and Jameson Taillon has hit hard. There is no ace in that group and I'm not sure any of them would be more than the third starter on a good team.

Contenders, Maybe?

10. Minnesota Twins (33-29)

Last Week's Ranking (9)

The Twins and Mariners feel a lot like the same team -- with really good starting pitching and very inconsistent offenses. The good news for the Twins is that Royce Lewis is back and looks like himself, homering in both of his first two games.

9. Seattle Mariners (36-28)

Last Week's Ranking (10)

Seattle deserved to move up this week as it has gone on a nice 8-2 run over the last 10 games. This looks more like the team that had been backed by a lot of smart baseball people at the beginning of the season (am I included in that group?).

Seattle's rotation is just so good. Its fifth starter has an ERA barely above 1.00!

8. Atlanta Braves (35-25)

Last Week's Ranking (7)

Did I really drop the Braves another spot this week? Yes, I did. Despite being 10 games above .500, this team simply isn't as scary without Spencer Strider or Ronald Acuna Jr. Its +39 differential is the worst of any of the other top-10 teams. I am just being realistic here, I don't see the Braves as the world-beaters that they seemed like before the season started.

7. Milwaukee Brewers (36-26)

Last Week's Ranking (8)

The Brew Crew has dropped three in a row but got Rhys Hoskins back this week. They had to face the red-hot Phillies, so I will give them a bit of a pass here. They still have a very healthy +58 run differential and a lot of organizational depth.

6. Kansas City Royals (37-26

Last Week's Ranking (6)

I bumped the Royals back down to potential contenders this week. They can't seem to get over that hump against Cleveland and their 14-16 mark against teams with winning records is a tad concerning. I do think their starting pitching will regress at some point and while their lineup is solid, it's not nearly as powerful as the other big dogs in the AL (Baltimore + New York).

Contenders, For Sure

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (39-25)

Last Week's Ranking (3)

We take the Dodgers for granted as they rarely lose more than a few games in a row or get beat badly on any given night. I would expect them to crawl their way back up toward the top 2-3 spots by the end of the season. If we are basing these rankings on how each team is performing at the time, then I have to keep the other four teams ahead of them for now.

4. Cleveland Guardians (40-21)

Last Week's Ranking (4)

If Cleveland can get Gavin Williams back in the rotation to help stabilize the back end of it -- meaning fewer innings for Carlos Carrasco -- then look out. This offense continues to kill its opponents softly without hitting all that many homers and has taken full advantage of some productive platoon players like Will Brennan and David Fry. Cleveland is not going anywhere for now and it seems to have the upper hand on K.C. for the division for the time being.

3. Baltimore Orioles (39-22)

Last Week's Ranking (5)

The Orioles are firmly entrenched here in the top five and I have them just ahead of the Guardians because my tiebreaker is "who would win a seven-game series between these teams if they played today." I would be backing Baltimore, who has a stronger lineup and two aces in its rotation (Corbin Burnes + Grayson Rodriguez) as well as a really good No. 3 in Kyle Bradish.

2. New York Yankees (45-19)

Last Week's Ranking (2)

The Yanks have ripped off eight wins in a row and now have the best record in baseball as well as the best run differential at +118.

Hopefully, Juan Soto's injury isn't serious because he's having an MVP-caliber season. Jasson Dominguez is ready to roll if needed and it sounds like he could be in pinstripes again quite soon.

1. Philadelphia Phillies (44-19)

Last Week's Ranking (1)

The Phillies are a half-game behind the Yankees for the best record in baseball, but I still have them in the top spot this week. The Yanks are surging, but the Phils continue to play some great baseball as well. Right now, I would take them in a seven-game series against New York. If Gerrit Cole was healthy...I probably wouldn't!

I'll see you next week for my newest batch of rankings -- feel free to let me know what I got right and wrong!
