Alec Pierce 2024 Outlook – Look For His Target Total To Drop
6 months agoPierce has been steady in a starting role for the Indianapolis Colts during his first couple years in the NFL. Playing the part of the No. 3 WR who can stretch the field from the outside, Pierce put up back-to-back 500-plus-yard seasons and averaged 15.2 yards per catch. Those numbers, along with his consecutive two-TD seasons, meant he did not have much of a fantasy impact, though The problem for Pierce heading into the upcoming season is the competition for targets has gotten stiffer. Indianapolis drafted Adonai Mitchell in the second round, arguably a player who many thought would have gone in the first round. With Michael Pittman Jr. as the top target outside and Josh Downs manning the slot, Pierce will have to battle Mitchell for the No. 3 WR spot in the offense. This is not even counting Jelani Woods, who has returned from a season-ending hamstring injury to reclaim his spot as Indy's top tight end. Pierce will have to fight and claw just to get enough targets to have another 500-yard year, let alone improve and become more of a fantasy force that gets into the 750-yard range. He is a better pick in a dynasty league where he can be stashed on a roster and the manager can wait to see how the receiver rotation works out in Indianapolis.
