Keaton Mitchell 2024 Outlook: An Uphill Battle to Fantasy Relevance
7 months agoMitchell burst onto the fantasy scene in 2023 as an undrafted free agent from East Carolina, putting up 138 yards on only nine totes in his first game on offense. The speedster was a great compliment to "Gus the Bus" Edwards, who is relied on to grind out those tough yards in-between the tackles. Unfortunately Mitchell went down with a full ACL tear in late December and will not be ready by Week 1 according to head coach John Harbaugh. While no official timetable has been given for a return, there should be opportunities when that does happen. Baltimore is entering a new era in the backfield with the aforementioned Edwards and JK Dobbins both signing with the Chargers this offseason. The Ravens did elect to bring in future hall-of-famer Derrick Henry who will lead the charge, but after him it will be a competition between Justice Hill and Mitchell for those change-of-pace, 3rd-down back touches. It's worth noting that the Ravens did select Marshall prospect Rasheen Ali in the fifth round, but based on Mitchell's elite efficiency last year - NFL leading 8.4 YPC (min 45 carries) - it would be an atrocity if he was relegated to RB4 duties. The uphill climb to fantasy relevance is a bit steep, but does still exist for Mitchell, especially if Henry or Hill were to miss time.
