Russell Wilson 2024 Outlook: Veteran Has Upside At Current ADP
7 months agoPittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson seeks a career rejuvenation as he prepares to play for his third team in four years. The 35-year-old was cut loose by the Denver Broncos after two disappointing seasons in which he totaled a 63.3 percent completion rate, 6,594 passing yards, 42 passing touchdowns, and 19 interceptions. He also took 100 sacks and rushed for 618 yards plus six touchdowns on the ground. While these numbers confirm that Wilson wasn't purely terrible in Denver, he certainly had his fair share of bad games. He went 11-19 as a Bronco, had zero playoff appearances, and made zero Pro Bowls. This was quite the shift from his time in Seattle when he made nine Pro Bowls in 10 years. Now a Steeler, Wilson will look to benefit from the coaching track records of head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. While Smith was a disappointment at the helm in Atlanta, we cannot discredit his success as offensive coordinator in Tennessee when he helped Ryan Tannehill to an 18-8 record over two years, one Pro Bowl appearance, and Comeback Player of the Year honors. Perhaps a new coaching staff and new weapons are exactly the fresh start that Wilson needs. Speaking of the weapons surrounding him, Wilson enters 2024 with George Pickens and rookie Roman Wilson as his top options in the passing game. These aren't exactly star players, though the veteran quarterback should get some extra help from the likes of Pat Freiermuth, Najee Harris, and Jaylen Warren. While the situation isn't perfect, Wilson has job security and benefits from the fact that Pittsburgh will always be aggressive — they consistently have playoff aspirations and don't ease up on the gas pedal. Wilson, who finished 2023 as the fantasy QB14, is once again an intriguing name in drafts because of his track record, steady floor, and top-12 upside. With that in mind, he's an incredible value at his current ADP of 198 (29th among quarterbacks).
