Antonio Gibson 2024 Outlook: The Reward Outweighs The Risk
7 months agoNew England Patriots running back Antonio Gibson is coming off the worst season of his four-year NFL career with 65 rushing attempts for 265 yards and one touchdown on the ground, and 48 receptions for 389 yards and two scores through the air. His poor performance prompted the Commanders to let him walk in free agency, leading to him signing a three-year $11.25 million deal with the Pats. He immediately slots in behind Rhamondre Stevenson as the No. 2 option. The question is how valuable will that role be? The Bill Belichick era is over and the team brought in Alex Van Pelt to lead the offense under Jerod Mayo. If they can find more success, then the former Commander has a chance to contribute in the passing game, where his numbers were still quite good. He averaged 7.2 yards per catch while finishing fourth in yards per touch, ninth in elusive rating, and sixth in fantasy points per opportunity. Stevenson deserves to be viewed as the starter, but the possibility of Gibson being fantasy-relevant exists, which is worth chasing considering how late he goes in drafts.
