Michael Mayer 2024 Outlook: Mayer Provides Little Value To Fantasy Gamers In 2024
7 months agoIt was only one year ago that the Las Vegas Raiders used the 35th overall pick to select tight end Michael Mayer in the 2023 NFL Draft. He did not meet expectations as a rookie posting a meager 27-304-2 stat line. Despite a tough year, his position atop the depth chart seemed secure. That was until the Raiders selected tight end Brock Bowers with the 13th overall pick in April's draft. It was disappointing to see as Mayer was a fun potential breakout candidate. However, those hopes appear long gone. The selection of Bowers seemingly relegates Mayer to the TE2 role. It's unclear what kind of role Mayer will even have while competing for targets against Bowers, Davante Adams, and Jakobi Meyers. Fantasy gamers should also be mindful of the quality of targets Mayer receives catching passes from Gardner Minshew or Aidan O'Connell. Simply put: there just aren't enough targets in this offense for Mayer to have any realistic path to fantasy relevance. He can safely be left undrafted across all formats.
