William Byron Aims For The Top 10 At North Wilkesboro
7 months agoDuring qualifying for this week's All-Star race at North Wilkesboro Speedway, William Byron gained a starting position of 13th. Byron obtained the deep starting spot after he nabbed a penalty for speeding during the pit crew challenge portion of qualifying. In last year's All-Star race at North Wilkesboro, Byron placed 20th, two laps off the lead lap after starting sixth. Through 13 races so far this year, Byron has three wins, leads all drivers in top-10 finishes (eight), and has the fourth-best average finish of all full-time drivers (12.5). Two of Byron's three wins this season were obtained on tracks with the same rules package as this week's race at North Wilkesboro (short track and road course rules package). In practice, Byron displayed top-10 speeds on the shorter run, ranking fifth in overall lap averages and seventh in five consecutive lap averages. On the longer run in practice, Byron's speeds were outside of the Top 10 in all other categories. Byron's starting position does leave him with decent Place Differential upside. Despite lacking speed on the long run, Byron still has some of the best equipment of the field with Hendrick Motorsports and ran well on tracks with this week's rules package. Look for Byron to compete for a top-10 finish based on his overall 2024 performance so far.
