Dalton Schultz 2024 Outlook: Target Share Set To Take Major Hit With Addition of Stefon Diggs
7 months agoAfter a couple of good seasons in Dallas, Dalton Schultz became everybody's favorite sleeper last season when he joined the Texans. He went on to average a mere 8.1 half PPR points per game. Technically, he was a back-end TE1, but it certainly didn't feel like it. Schultz produced over 15 fantasy points in just 20% of his games. His route participation didn't increase either from his time with the Cowboys. He remained around 75%, which was similar to his opportunity the last couple of seasons. But now, the Texans added Stefon Diggs to their already stellar receiver room that consisted of Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Each of these guys had a target rate north of 25% in 2023. Schultz will undoubtedly see fewer targets playing alongside three elite pass-catchers. In fact, he may even be completely unplayable in shallower leagues. The closest thing to a tight end that is 4th on the totem poll in targets would be Noah Fant playing alongside DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba last season. Fant's target share was just 7.9% with the addition of JSN. That was a decrease from 11.4% the year before and Smith-Njigba certainly isn't Diggs. Schultz' target share is set to take a similar hit in 2024 and thus shouldn't be considered anything more than a low-end TE2.
