Corbin Carroll Grabs Pine Against Yankees
9 months agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll will get his first day off of the season on Tuesday against the visiting New York Yankees. With Carroll starting on the bench, outfielder prospect Jorge Barrosa will make his first big-league start, playing center field and batting seventh against Yankees left-hander Nestor Cortes. Jake McCarthy is in right field. The 23-year-old Carroll, who won National League Rookie of the Year honors in 2023, has gone just 3-for-17 (.176) to begin the year with three singles, two stolen bases, four runs scored and six walks in 23 plate appearances. Barrosa was recalled from Triple-A Reno when the team put Alek Thomas (hamstring) on the injured list on Monday, and he doubled in his first ever big-league plate appearance as a pinch-hitter on Monday evening.
