Blue Jays Make Yariel Rodriguez's Deal Official
10 months agoThe Toronto Blue Jays made right-hander Yariel Rodriguez's signing official on Friday, announcing their five-year, $32 million deal. To make room on the 40-man roster, Otto Lopez was designated for assignment. Rodriguez's signing was delayed due to visa issues, but the 26-year-old is now officially under contract and ready to go for spring training. The deal includes a $6 million player option for the 2028 season, which if declined, becomes a $10 million club option. Given the fact that Rodriguez didn't pitch at all in 2023 and that he was used as a reliever in Japan back in 2022, it's likely going to take some time for Toronto to get him stretched out as a starter in 2024, and he's probably going to have some strict innings limits as well.
