10 months agoThe Philadelphia Phillies claimed infielder/outfielder Diego Castillo off waivers from the New York Yankees on Monday. Castillo has been passed around this offseason and now lands with his fourth different organization. The 26-year-old Venezuelan utility man made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and went 54-for-262 (.206) with 11 home runs, 29 RBI and 28 runs scored in 96 games but played in just one big-league contest for the Arizona Diamondbacks last season. In 124 contests with Triple-A Reno in 2023, he slashed .313/.431/.410 with three home runs, 72 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 556 plate appearances. Castillo played left field, second base, shortstop and third base in 2023 and will give the Phillies a super-utility option heading into spring training.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
