William Contreras 2024 Player Outlook: Top Catcher Option Set To Shine In 2024
11 months agoWilliam Contreras emerged as one of the better catching options in 2022. Last year, he cemented his status as one of the best fantasy catchers. In 141 games (611 PAs), Contreras hit .289/.367/.457 with 17 homers, 78 RBI, 86 runs and six steals. Only Adley Rutschman had more plate appearances (687) than Contreras at the catcher position and that volume provides a solid floor. Among catchers with at least 250 plate appearances, Contreras ranked first in batting average and runs scored while also ranking in the top three for RBI and stolen bases. His 17 home runs were tied-16th but that still didn't stop Contreras from ending the season as the number one catcher in standard roto leagues. Despite that, he's still averaging as the third catcher taken in drafts. The Milwaukee offense ranked 17th in runs scored (728) last year but looks better heading into 2024 so Contreras shouldn't see a drop-off in the counting stats with the same volume. He ranked in the 93rd percentile for framing and 90th percentile for blocks above average, making his defensive abilities a route to maintaining that volume. Everything is pointing toward Contreras having another outstanding season.
