Tyler Mahle Agrees On Two-Year Deal With Rangers
12 months agoFree-agent right-hander Tyler Mahle and the Texas Rangers agreed to a two-year, $22 million deal on Thursday, according to sources. Mahle had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in May and should return in 2024, and he can make another $5 million in performance bonuses based on innings pitched in 2025. The 29-year-old will most likely miss the first half of his first year in Texas. Mahle will help replace Jordan Montgomery in Texas' starting rotation eventually, as Montgomery is expected to go elsewhere in free agency. Mahle only made five starts for the Minnesota Twins last year before needing Tommy John surgery. In his last full season in 2022 with the Cincinnati Reds and Twins, Mahle went 6-8 with a 4.40 ERA (3.87 FIP) and 1.22 WHIP with 43 walks and 126 strikeouts in 120 2/3 innings over 23 starts.
