Phillies Want To Keep Bryce Harper For Life
1 year agoThe Philadelphia Phillies want to keep first baseman Bryce Harper for the rest of his career, making sure he never plays for another team again. Harper's 13-year, $330 million contract won't expire until after the 2031 season, but the two sides are expected to discuss a potential extension that would pay him more than his current $26 million per year. The two-time MVP got a late start to 2023 while recovering from right-elbow surgery, but he was great all year when he eventually returned, slashing .293/.401/.499 with a .900 OPS with 21 home runs, 72 RBI, 29 doubles, a triple, 11 stolen bases and 84 runs scored in 126 games. Harper is going to be a full-time first baseman moving forward in Philadelphia and he should put up even better counting stats over a full season in 2024 if he can stay on the field.
