Ja'Marr Chase Injury Update
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said that wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase's back is moving in a positive direction after he played through the injury in the Week 10 upset loss at the hands of the Houston Texans. Chase played a season-low 84 percent of the offensive snaps on Sunday, but he still caught five of his six targets for 124 yards and a touchdown and appeared no worse for the wear with fellow wideout Tee Higgins (hamstring) sidelined.
The 23-year-old came into the contest as a game-time decision, but he made it through pre-game workouts and suited up. The Bengals have a short week with a Thursday night game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11, but Chase should be fine to play and will be a must-start WR1 in all fantasy lineups. However, Chase will receive more attention from Baltimore's secondary with Higgins likely to miss a second straight game.
Tee Higgins Injury Update
On a short week with a Thursday night game against the division-rival Baltimore Ravens in Week 11, it's considered unlikely that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (hamstring) will be able to return from a hamstring injury he suffered in practice last week, according to a source. Higgins had to sit out the Week 10 upset loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday and is likely going to miss a second straight game.
Fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be active on Thursday night. In Higgins' absence on Sunday, Ja'Marr Chase unsurprisingly led the team in receiving with 124 yards and a touchdown, but Tyler Body went over 100 yards receiving and Trenton Irwin also caught two passes for 54 yards and a touchdown in the 30-27 loss. UPDATE: Higgins was listed as a DNP at Monday's practice.
Matthew Stafford Injury Update
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (thumb) should be ready to return in Week 11 against the division-rival Seattle Seahawks this Sunday, according to head coach Sean McVay, but he also said "he'll be pushing through." McVay said Carson Wentz was "a chance to upgrade the quarterback room. Someone that's played a lot of high-level football." Stafford sprained the UCL in his right thumb in Week 8 and sat out of the Week 9 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
With the bye to heal up last week, the 35-year-old veteran apparently made some good progress. If Stafford isn't cleared to play this Sunday, Wentz would make the start for the Rams. Fantasy managers that have receivers Cooper Kupp or rookie Puka Nacua rostered are hoping that Stafford can return sooner than later. We'll have a better idea of whether Stafford can make it back in Week 11 once the team releases its injury report on Wednesday.
Keenan Allen, Gerald Everett Injury Update
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen (shoulder) and tight end Gerald Everett (back) are both being labeled as day-to-day after getting hurt in the Week 10 loss to the Detroit Lions, according to head coach Brandon Staley. Allen left the game for a bit in the second half but eventually returned to finish things out with a monster day (11 catches, 175 yards and two touchdowns).
We'll keep a close eye on the 31-year-old during the week, but if he's good to go for Week 11 against the Green Bay Packers, he'll be a must-start wideout in fantasy. Everett couldn't catch his two targets on Sunday before hurting his back. He never returned. The 29-year-old is more of a question mark heading into Week 11, and if he can't play, Donald Parham Jr. would become an interesting tight end streamer.
Rhamondre Stevenson Injury Update
New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson (back) briefly exited the game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10 to be stretched out on the sideline. He returned to action and seemed to be fine, but the Patriots tested his back on Monday.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, tests on his back injury came back negative and his back simply tightened up on Sunday. The third-year running back has 126 rushes for 482 yards and three touchdowns and has hauled in 32 passes for 229 yards this season. Although his fantasy upside is limited by playing in one of the worst offenses in the NFL, he has an RB2 outlook in most matchups. The Patriots are on a bye in Week 11.
Derek Carr Injury Update
New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said that quarterback Derek Carr's right shoulder checked out fine on Monday, but he remains in the league's concussion protocol after taking a hard hit in the Week 10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. The Vikings are heading into their bye in Week 11, which will give Carr some extra time to rest up. He is hopeful that he'll be ready to rock for a big divisional clash against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 12.
The Saints made it clear that they're sticking with Carr under center moving forward as long as he's healthy, even though Jameis Winston made things interesting following Carr's departure on Sunday. Still, the 32-year-old veteran checks in as the QB28 in average fantasy points per game so far in 2023, so he hasn't been of much value in superflex leagues to this point.
Alexander Mattison Injury Update
Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol on Monday, per The Athletic's Alec Lewis. A concussion forced Mattison from the third quarter of Sunday's eventual 27-19 home win over the New Orleans Saints, leaving explosive change-of-pace back Ty Chandler with a featured role in his stead. It's been a tough year for the 25-year-old Mattison, who is plodding for 3.5 yards per carry and zero rushing touchdowns over 130 attempts in his first year as the Vikings' de facto workhorse following Dalvin Cook's departure.
Chandler ran 15 times for 45 yards and a score against the Saints, representing an obvious waiver-wire add as Minnesota's probable lead back next Sunday night against a league-worst Denver Broncos run defense if Mattison cannot pass protocol by then. It remains to be seen if Mattison is able to log some activity during Wednesday's upcoming practice. (ESPN)
Michael Thomas Injury Update
New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said that wide receiver Michael Thomas (knee) suffered a "fairly significant" knee injury in the Week 10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. A week after not catching a single pass in Week 9, Thomas caught one of his two targets for a nine-yard gain against Minnesota before leaving the game and never returning. The Saints have a well-timed bye in Week 11, but if the 30-year-old's injury is serious enough, he might not be ready to return in Week 12 to take on the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 26.
Rasheed Shaheed and rookie A.T. Perry would both take on bigger roles in the Saints' passing attack behind Chris Olave if Thomas is forced to miss any time coming out of the bye week.
