Braves, Cardinals Interested In Aaron Nola
1 year agoThe Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals are among the teams showing early interest in free-agent right-hander Aaron Nola, according to sources. Nola has until Tuesday to decide on whether he will accept the $20.3 million qualifying offer the Philadelphia Phillies extended to him last week. He's expected to reject the offer in hopes of securing a more lucrative multi-year deal on the open market. The 30-year-old is reportedly "close" with Braves pitching coach Rich Kranitz, who served as the Phillies' bullpen coach in 2016 and 2017 before being elevated to pitching coach in 2018. Nola had somewhat of a down year in the 2023 regular season, going 12-9 with a 4.46 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 202 strikeouts in 193 2/3 innings. Still, he was dominant in the postseason and will be one of the more coveted starting pitchers on the market this offseason.
