We're in the heart of the fantasy football season and almost every fantasy team will be missing a couple of key players in Week 7. Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (rib) and Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams (ankle) are both expected to miss time, while Christian McCaffrey (oblique) is also dealing with an injury.
On top of that, six teams are on a bye in Week 7. So, Chicago Bears rookie running back Roschon Johnson could be a great pickup option for Week 7, assuming he is healthy.
Should you pick up Johnson off waivers for this week? Let's dive in.
What Did Roschon Johnson Do In Week 6?
Johnson did not play in Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings due to a concussion. The rookie running back suffered the head injury in the Bears Week 5 Thursday night win over the Washington Commanders.
Despite having three extra days to recover from his concussion, Johnson did not clear protocols in time to play in Chicago's 19-13 loss on Sunday. With Khalil Herbert (ankle) also missing Week 6 and placed on the injured reserve list, it was D'Onta Foreman who saw most of the running back work this past Sunday.
Foreman rushed 15 times for 65 yards in the contest as the Bears' RB1. If Johnson clears concussion protocols this week, he should be in line to receive most of the running back work going forward.
Is Roschon Johnson A Good Fantasy Football Pickup For Week 7?
With all the running back injuries and bye weeks in Week 7, Johnson should absolutely be picked up in fantasy leagues heading into Week 7. Assuming he's active against the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend, he'll have a nice matchup against a defense that is allowing 4.3 yards per carry.
Johnson will also likely assume RB1 duties upon his return. The rookie running back has played 21-plus snaps in three of four full games this season. With Herbert out in Week 7 and beyond, his number of snaps should increase into the 30's or even the 40's.
Foreman will be involved in the backfield as well. But the Bears love what they've seen out of the rookie this year, and he'll have every chance to lead the Bears in snaps off his concussion. Johnson is a great pickup and will likely be a solid flex option against the Raiders on Sunday.
