RB Cam Akers was traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday. This came just days after Akers was a healthy scratch in the Rams' Week 2 contest against the San Francisco 49ers.
Now with Akers in the NFC North, how will his workload be? Will he return to having fantasy football value?
Let’s take a closer look at the move and assess what you should potentially be doing if Akers is on your fantasy squad.

Should I Drop Cam Akers in Fantasy Football?
Akers has struggled in the young 2023 season, receiving no touches in Week 2 and being held to 29 yards on 22 total carries in his Week 1 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. He was able to score a one-yard touchdown in that game, which helped boost his fantasy output on the week.
This comes after he struggled for a large part of the 2022 season. In his first 11 games, he averaged 2.9 total yards per carry. He was able to turn things around at the end of the season. In his final three games, he rushed for a total of 345 yards on 5.5 yards per carry and three touchdowns.
This gave fantasy managers a ton of confidence that Akers had rediscovered his step that many feared he had lost after suffering a torn Achilles in 2021.
With all of that, Akers will receive a fresh start in Minnesota, where the team gave the keys of the backfield to RB Alexander Mattison ahead of this season. The Vikings have struggled tremendously on the ground, ranking dead last in the NFL in rushing yards through two weeks.
Who Should I Pickup in Week 3 Fantasy Football?
Akers will have some opportunity to help bring life to this Vikings rushing attack, but his efficiency and production haven’t necessarily ensured that he can effectively do so. For those that have Akers rostered, he is worth stashing until it is seen how this backfield plays out in the coming weeks.
It’s unclear how Akers will be worked into game action for the Vikings over his first few games in Minnesota. Fantasy managers should stash him and look to potentially sell high on Akers if he can string together a few productive fantasy performances.
