Christian Encarnacion-Strand Starting On The Bench
1 year agoCincinnati Reds rookie third baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand will start Thursday's game against the Detroit Tigers on the bench for the third time in the last four games. Spencer Steer is starting at third base and batting third, while Jake Fraley is the designated hitter and batting leadoff against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson. Now that Fraley and Joey Votto are back from the injured list, Encarnacion-Strand hasn't seen as much regular playing time for Cincy. The 23-year-old rookie has hit .263 (46-for-175) with six home runs, seven doubles, 22 RBI and 18 runs scored in his first 50 major-league contests this year. As long as the Reds remain healthy the rest of the way, Encarnacion-Strand may struggle to find consistent at-bats.
