Salvador Perez Returns As First Baseman
1 year agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (back, neck) is back in the team's starting lineup on Friday against the visiting Boston Red Sox and left-hander James Paxton, making the start at first base and batting third in the order. Perez was held out as a precaution from Wednesday's game, but after an off day on Thursday, he's good to go. In 15 career at-bats against Paxton, Perez is hitting .267 with no home runs or RBI. The 33-year-old All-Star backstop finished the month of August on a cold note, going 4-for-34 (.118) with no homers, two RBI, 12 strikeouts and two runs scored in nine starts since Aug. 20, so fantasy managers will be hoping he can pick things back up to close out the 2023 season. Perez remains relevant in single-catcher leagues with 19 home runs on the year and 57 RBI in 459 at-bats.
