Braves Call Up Pitching Prospect Darius Vines
1 year agoThe Atlanta Braves recalled right-handed pitching prospect Darius Vines from the minors on Monday and optioned left-hander Jared Schuster to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move. Per MLB Pipeline, Vines is Atlanta's No. 10 prospect. The 25-year-old has only made nine starts in the minors this year in the Rookie League and High-A Rome and Gwinnett after missing most of the season with a shoulder injury. But in his nine starts he's done well, posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 14 walks and 46 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings. Vines could make a spot start for the Braves at some point the rest of the way, but he's mostly expected to work out of the bullpen in his first taste of the big leagues. Fantasy managers in mixed redraft leagues can probably avoid him for now.
