Jared Jones Strikes Out 10
1 year agoPittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Jared Jones tossed a gem on Sunday, striking out 10 batters over six innings of one-run baseball. The result was encouraging for the 22-year-old, who has struggled since his promotion to Triple-A Indianapolis. Over 12 appearances, Jones has posted an ugly 5.46 ERA, which follows a dominant 2.23 ERA he posted across 10 starts with Double-A Altoona. He's the fourth-ranked prospect in the Pirates' farm system and the No. 74 prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline. That profile includes a fastball that sits in the upper 90s alongside a 55-grade curve, 55-grade slider, and 50-grade changeup. Jones' arsenal is deep, but his control has been questionable throughout his minor-league career. He still needs polish, though Jones has the potential to surface as an interesting fantasy asset in 2024.
