Angels Calling Up Nolan Schanuel
1 year agoThe Los Angeles Angels are calling up first baseman Nolan Schanuel on Friday, according to sources. The Angels took him with the 11th overall pick in the MLB draft less than six weeks ago, but the team is desperate to save their season after they chose to be buyers at the trade deadline earlier this month. The Angels enter Friday's action 12.5 games out of the division lead in the American League West and seven games out of the final AL wild-card spot. Schanuel, the team's No. 2 prospect on MLB Pipeline, hit .370 (27-for-73) with a homer, 15 RBI and 20 runs scored in 21 games across three minor-league levels to convince the Halos that he can help them during the stretch run. The 21-year-old Florida Atlantic product should at least see decent playing time at first base against right-handed pitchers, and he could also be used occasionally in the outfield.
