Andrew McCutchen Taking A Day Off Monday
1 year agoPittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen will start Monday's game against the New York Mets on the bench. It appears to be a normal day of rest for the 36-year-old veteran. Bryan Reynolds will serve as the designated hitter and bat second, while Connor Joe gets the start in left field while hitting leadoff against Mets right-hander Carlos Carrasco. The day of rest for McCutchen comes after he went hitless in seven at-bats with two strikeouts in Sunday's doubleheader against the Cincinnati Reds. McCutchen is having a pretty solid season in his return to Pittsburgh in 2023, but he's gone just 9-for-50 (.180) with no homers, two doubles, three RBI, 15 strikeouts and four runs scored in 14 starts since July 25.
