Dalton Schultz Injury Update
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz (ribs) returned to the practice field Monday. The 27-year-old missed about a week of practice after taking a shot to the ribs, but he appears to be fine and is back in action. Schultz is expected to be the primary tight end for Houston, and since the Texans don't have many reliable pass-catchers, he could have plenty of fantasy value. At worst, Schultz should be able to provide mid-range TE2 value this upcoming season. (CBS)
Trey McBride Injury Update
Arizona Cardinals second-year tight end Trey McBride (undisclosed) returned to training camp practice on Tuesday after missing some time in the last week with an undisclosed injury. McBride's absence has been notable, as he has been the team's No. 1 tight end with Zach Ertz (knee) currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list. The former 55th overall pick was Arizona's primary pass-catching tight end threat in the second half of 2022 after Ertz tore his ACL in Week 10.
He finished with 25 receptions for 234 yards and one touchdown to close out his rookie campaign after Ertz was hurt. McBride could open the year as the No. 1 TE in the desert, but Ertz will eventually return. McBride will be a low-end TE2 streaming option for as long as Ertz remains out with quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) also not expected to be ready for Week 1.
Luke Schoonmaker Injury Update
Dallas Cowboys rookie tight end Luke Schoonmaker (foot) took part in a more full training camp practice on Tuesday and also caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Will Grier. Schoonmaker was finally activated from the Non-Football Injury list in camp on Monday and is starting to do more on the field just a day later.
The 24-year-old had been sidelined with a partial tear of his plantar fasciitis in his foot. While he was out, second-year tight end Jake Ferguson cemented himself as the team's No. 1 tight end, but Schoonmaker will eventually have a chance to earn more playing in his first NFL season now that Dalton Schultz is in Houston. Still, Ferguson is the better fantasy bet in 2023 as a low-end TE2 streaming option in deeper fantasy leagues.
Mo Alie-Cox Injury Update
Indianapolis Colts tight end Mo Alie-Cox (foot) didn't practice on Saturday. The exact nature of his injury remains a mystery. But considering he's wearing a boot means he will probably be out at least a few more sessions.
The 29-year-old has played in Indianapolis his entire career, appearing in 74 games and catching 89 passes for 1,125 yards and 11 touchdowns. Although Cox has proven to only be intermittently productive over the years, his condition is worth monitoring for deep leagues.
