Michael Wacha To Make First Rehab Start Saturday
1 year agoSan Diego Padres right-hander Michael Wacha (shoulder) will make a minor-league rehab start on Saturday for Triple-A El Paso and will likely sit in the 50- to 60-pitch range during the outing. Wacha hasn't pitched since July 1 due to right-shoulder inflammation, and the Friars have been keen on not rushing him back. They now have a bit more urgency with right-hander Joe Musgrove (shoulder) being shut down for three weeks due to inflammation in his right shoulder capsule. The 32-year-old Wacha will probably need more than one rehab start in the minors, but barring a setback, he should be back around mid to late August. Wacha has been excellent with an ERA under 3.00 and a 1.07 WHIP. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be as great the rest of the way, but he's earned a roster spot in all fantasy leagues in 2023.
