Rays Acquire Aaron Civale From Guardians
1 year agoThe Tampa Bay Rays acquired right-hander Aaron Civale from the Cleveland Guardians on Monday in exchange for first base prospect Kyle Manzardo. The Rays are bolstering their starting rotation as they attempt to get back atop the American League East division and make another deep playoff run in 2023. They had to give up one of their top overall prospects in order to do so, though. Civale represents a significant pickup, especially since he's under club control through the 2025 season. The 28-year-old has been a must-start in fantasy since returning from an injured-list stint earlier this year, posting a 2.24 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 20 walks and 50 strikeouts in 11 starts (64 1/3 innings) since June 2. Civale has plenty of swing-and-miss stuff, but he could be headed for some regression to finish the year, especially with the move to the much-tougher AL East.
