Texans Not Ready To Name C.J. Stroud The Starter
1 year agoHouston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans remains in no rush to name rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud as the starting QB over Davis Mills this early in training camp, even though Stroud had a better day in practice on Thursday. "We'll see," Ryans said. "When the time comes for us to declare someone as a starter we'll do that, when it's the right time for us." Houston took Stroud with the second overall pick in this year's draft, but the QB competition could last all of training camp. Mills has gone 5-19-1 with 33 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in 26 career starts for the Texans, and his inconsistency is what prompted the Texans to go with Stroud at No. 2 overall. Nothing is official yet and probably won't be for a while, but it would be a pretty big surprise if Stroud doesn't make his NFL debut in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.
