Brewers Acquire Carlos Santana From Pirates
1 year agoThe Milwaukee Brewers acquired first baseman Carlos Santana from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday in exchange for shortstop prospect Jhonny Severino, according to sources. Santana will stay in the National League Central after hitting .235/.321/.412 with 12 home runs, 25 doubles, 53 RBI, six stolen bases and 45 runs scored in 94 games for the Bucs. The 37-year-old former on-base machine has three of his 12 homers in the last three days, and although he's past his prime, he should play regularly in Milwaukee, giving him a boost in fantasy value as a corner-infield option in fantasy leagues the rest of the season. Severino, meanwhile, is a promising 18-year-old shortstop who was one of two big international signings for the Brew Crew in 2022. In Pittsburgh, Ji Man Choi will now see a sizeable bump in playing time at first base against righties, while also seeing time at designated hitter.
