Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney faced a setback on the first day of training camp. He sustained a knee injury and was sidelined for the rest of the day. Toney, who has dealt with various injuries throughout his career, was seen as the WR1 for the Chiefs in the upcoming season, and this injury was a letdown for everyone.
After having minor knee surgery last offseason, Toney missed multiple games during the campaign due to hamstring strains. Following the injury in the training camp, he went through another knee surgery, and Andy Reid has hinted at his return timeline.
In this article, we will discuss when the Chiefs wide receiver is expected to return and whether he will be able to play in Week 1's fixture against the Detroit Lions.

Will Kadarius Toney Play In Week 1?
As per Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, Kadarius Toney had surgery to clean up cartilage in his knee. He has a chance to play in Week 1 against the Lions, but there is a possibility that the 24-year-old star won't be rushed back into playing.
Patrick Mahomes might need to lead his team without one of his best weapons, and it will be fascinating to see how other senior players like Travis Kelce and Marquez Valdes-Scantling will step up in Toney's absence.
Kansas City Has a Deep WR Room
The Kansas City Chiefs lost Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency, yet they still have a big group of talented wide receivers. Apart from Toney and Valdes-Scantling, they have the likes of Justyn Ross, Richie James, Justin Watson, and rookie Rashee Rice, who are expected to make a significant impact.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions, and Toney's availability will be key in their quest to defend their crown. Last season, he had 16 catches for 171 yards with three touchdowns in nine games and played a huge role in their Super Bowl win. Given how optimistic coach Reid was, the former Giants receiver is unlikely to miss more than one game to start the season.
